
Festes de la Mercè: this takes place in September to say goodbye to the summer; it lasts four days and is in honour of Nostra Senyora de la Mercè (Our Lady of Mercy), one of the patrons of the city. There are groups of people parading, among the giants, the "gegantes" and the big heads, the "capgrossos", musical bands, folkloristic dance shows, men on horseback.
During this celebration once can also admire the "castellers", the builders of human castles.
Cavalcada dels Reis: the parade of the Three Wise Men, which takes place every January 5th to the city centre.
Festa Major de Gràcia: towards August 15th the residents of Gràcia decorate a dozen streets according to a different theme; people lay tables on the streets full of food and drinks. Every evening contest are held between groups
Carnival: during the "Carnestoltes" one celebrates the other patron of Barcelona, eulàlia; it is a week rich in music and parades to mark the end of the winter but also the beginning of Lent, in the wait for Easter.
