By plane: it is obviously the fastest means to reach Barcelona; there are three important airlines and they fly both from Italy to Spain and within Spain itself:
Iberia, tel. l. 902 40 05 00 or tel. 93 401 33 73, Passeig de Gràcia 30, Barcelona;
Air Europa, tel. 902 40 15 01, with offices only in the airport, Barcelona;
Spanair, tel. 902 13 14 15, only airport offices, Barcelona
Airports: Barcelona only has one airport, El Prat, 12 km southwest of Barcelona, tel. 93 298 38 38.
To reach the city there are the local Rodalies trains which leave from a station five minutes away along a walkway between terminals A and B; the main stops are Estaciò Sants and Placa de Catalunya. Trains leave every half an hour, running from 6:13 to 22:41 p.m. (departures from Sants towards the airport are in service from 5:43 to 22:13; from Placa de Catalunya they leave five minutes earlier)
To reach Barcelona one can use the Al Aereobus service, running via Placa de Catalunya for Estaciò Sants every 15 min from 6 to midnight (departures froom Placa de Catalunya run from 5:13 to 23:15).
Another airport is that of Girona, which is on the Costa Brava, though, 103 km from the city; it is rather important because it was chosen by Ryan Air, one of the low-cost companies; to reach Barcelona there are two bus lines, one leaving from the airport and one from the Girona town centre. They both reach the Barcelona North bus station.
There are also indirect connections, but taking at least 5/6 hours more.
By car: the route is mainly by motorway, across the Liguria coast, the French one and a tract of Spanish coast; from Genoa one meets the border with France at Ventimiglia, leaves the A10 and runs along the southern French coast along the N113 to then head inwards towards Arles; from there one follows the A54 to Nîmes, takes the A9 which leads straight to the Spanish border and then takes the A7 to Barcelona.
By coach: there is a Eurolines connection between the major cities in the centre-north of Italy and Barcelona, they run three times a week and more often during the summer; the journey takes about 16 hours.
