Barri Gòtic in Barcelona

Barri Gòtic: this represents the religious and civic heart of the city and is a few blocks north east of the Rambla, between that and the Laietana road. On the Roman foundations of "Barcino" the medieval city arose: it doesn’t therefore contain only the remains of the Roman city, but also the architectural masterpieces of medieval Barcelona. A great number of shops, bars, restaurants and business centres make of this part of the city an area full of life until late at night.

One must visit the Catedral, built between 1298 and 1459 in the highest point of the old city. Here, in Roman times, there was temple dedicated to Augustus; it remained incomplete, the neo-gothic façade being of 1887.
